INTRODUCTION TO POWERTRON GLOBAL

DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS

During initial site visits for our system optimization service, a Powertron Global forensic mechanical engineer attaches IoT (Internet of Things) sensors to HVAC units and controls. The sensors report a treasure trove of data every half-second to Powerton Global’s Continuous Thermal Optimization (CTO) and Forensic Engineering Optimization (FEO) software. A baseline report identifies cost-saving opportunities in HVAC run times, system optimization, preventive maintenance, and preemptive repairs. Customers then continuously act on reports generated by the CTO and FEO software to realize savings and prevent costs.Our software processes the data to identify, diagnose, and treat costly issues including:

·         unnecessarily long run times

·         excessive loads

·         mechanical wear

·         unreliable sensor data

·         low delta T syndrome

·         lost equipment capacity, primarily due to internally fouled heat exchangers

·         evaporator enthalpy losses

·         operation sequencing glitches

THERMAL DRIFT MITIGATION

Powertron Global's IoT service follows conventional retro-commissioning practices. We also attempt to optimize the equipment for the current application rather than simply make it work according to the original design. We do this via an IoT cloud-based platform by utilizing AHRI and ASHRAE standards to determine the actual capacity and electrical usage of equipment. We term our  service "Thermal Drift Mitigation" since it is more in depth than a conventional retro-commissioning processes.  

HEAT TRANSFER OPTIMIZATION

Powertron Global’s PermaFrost NMR product line increases HVAC unit capacity by cleaning and perfecting internal and external heat transfer surfaces. Since 2008, PermaFrost NMR has been safely applied to over 150,000 chiller and DX units. Using processes, procedures, and calculations embedded in our CTO & FEO software, we conducted over 300 independently certified studies in 38 countries proving capacity improvements ranging from:

·         an average of 2.8% in young DX units to an average of 28% in DX units 14-years old & older
·         an average of 5% in young chillers to an average of 22.8% in chillers 14-years-old & older

We now use our IoT CTO & FEO platform to establish baseline capacity and restored capacity, providing data every second for conclusive findings of capacity restoration in relatively short order. Customers keep sensors on a representative sample of equipment to document ongoing capacity optimization.

Our customers report a more substantial ROI from Permafrost NMR than lighting retrofits.
